With my desire to feed my family a healthy diet, and our need to be both gluten and dairy free, one of the biggest struggles I initially found was what to fix for breakfast. I find it important that we all get a protein and nutrient packed meal in the morning to help fuel us and start our day off right.
Not only do I want a delicious and healthy breakfast to get us started on our day, I need for it to be quick and easy for busy mornings. These two recipes have both been our go-to items that meet all those criteria.
banana berry protein packed overnight oats
why we love it
This delicious breakfast is made in minutes the night before. In the morning you just have to open the jar, stir it up, and it’s ready to eat! My husband likes that he can grab it to take with him in the morning to eat at work. My kids love that I can mix it up with a variety of their favorite berries. And I love that I can sneak a couple super healthy ingredients in and nobody even notices!
helpful tips
These overnight oats could be made in any container that fits the ingredients, but wide mouth pint size jars are my preference. I like to have a stash of these jars on hand for so many reasons. We use them for so many things in our kitchen and around the house. The best thing is that they can be tossed in the dishwasher, making this a very easy clean up breakfast.
This is a great meal to have the kids help out with. My kids love to help fill their own jar with the ingredients. We use these fun chalk labels to label each jar with their names. They love to help write the names on them too. These labels stay on for quite a few times through the dishwasher. The chalk marker works great on them. It wipes off and is re-writeable. They’re also great for labeling a variety of other items in the house!
I like to keep stocked up on some of the items to make these so I only have to remember to grab the fresh items at the store each week. The Hemp Seeds, Chia Seeds, and Raw Honey are a great buy from Amazon.

Banana Berry superfood smoothie
why we love it
Our other go-to quick and easy breakfast that is delicious and healthy is this Banana Berry Protein Smoothie. It is packed with nutrients that fill you up and fuel you for your day, it’s super quick and easy to take on the go, and it is a crowd pleaser in our house.
I have been making smoothies for a long time for myself but a few years ago I finally landed on this perfect combination of ingredients. My husband and kids quickly caught on to the fact that it’s a delicious breakfast and started asking for smoothies frequently. The Ninja Blender that I bought then, and still have now, has worked so well for making smoothies for the whole family. It has been perfect for us with the versatility of the larger pitcher to make more for the family, and the single serve blend and go cups. The super powerful motor blends everything perfectly. Best of all– it didn’t come with a hefty price tag!!
mix it up
This smoothie is easy to adjust to your liking. We mix it up with different flavored berries, and sometimes even choose to use frozen tropical fruit rather than berries. The types of juice and milk can be adjusted to your preference. We like to use Hemp Milk or Flax Milk for their high protein content. Any smoothie powder can be used but I have found this one that has not only the ingredients and nutrient content that I like, but also the price.
